The Adidas Basketball apparel design team traveled to Seattle in search of inspiration. A week-long workshop was organized, hosting these creative VIPs to work remotely.
Their three muses:
Seattle, sound, and basketball.
Experimentation with sound was an essential part of the week. A high-output floor subwoofer was utilized to create form, patterns and movement by filling the driver with pigments, solids, and liquids. Upon activating the sub, sound frequencies would excite it’s contents.
Design is visual, sound is visceral. How can we create visual inspiration from sound?
Enter: the Sound Signature Scribe. Adapting an ancient technique of Turkish paint marbling, this robotic tool manipulates paint floating on a thickened water. The manipulation is based on sound input. In this case, the sound input was music, interviews and highlight reels from Adidas Basketball sponsored players.
